To Whom It May Concern:

Aside from the fact that we are lovers of Indian Classical Music, it has just been brought to my attention that you are using an unauthorized, uncredited copyrighted photograph of the Younger Dagar Brothers, taken by me in New York in 1983, on your website 'Mehfil-E-Mausiqi.'

I am the sole owner & author of this photograph; I have absolutely no idea as to how you obtained this image but I request that you remove it immediately as it is obviously not secure from down-loading & further mis-appropriation. In fact, it seems that Navras Records in London has taken this very image from your site & utilized it on a recent CD cover—also without authorization, credit or remuneration.

In this cyber-age we are all concerned with pirating, copying & every form of inappropriate usage of 'intellectual properties' however when it affects our very livelihood then it becomes a more serious matter...That is why I am addressing this issue & bringing it to your attention immediately.

I trust that you will honor my request with all due speed as I wish to avoid bringing this into the 'legal arena.'

Sincerely, Ira Landgarten

Ira Landgarten is an independent scholar, critic and aficionado, who has been studying and documenting Indian classical music for over 30 years.

From 1973-76, he lived in India and Nepal, studying traditional sitar rudiments of the Vishnupur school with the late Sangeetacharya Gokul Nag and his son, Pandit Manilal Nag, as well as researching the string instrument craft in Calcutta. His articles, interviews, liner notes and photographs of many of India's most renowned musicians have appeared throughout the world. He co-founded Raga Records [www.raga.com] and Simla House, Inc. [www.simlahouse.com], and has co-produced many of their titles. He is currently working on an anthology of his photos and interviews with many of India's major classical musicians. A video documentary, Kings with Straw Mats, on which he collaborated, has been released by Mystic Fire Video. In 1992 Ira was invited to participate in the 'Parampara' Festival at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin; several of his photos appeared in the exhibition as well as the tri-lingual book 'Masters of Raga.'

Ira has been affiliated with the World Music Institute, New York, [www.worldmusicinstitute.org] since its inception and his photos were displayed in the "World Music in Focus" Twentieth Anniversary exhibition at the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, NY during autumn 2004. He is also one of the very first recipients of the "Chhandayan Jyotsna Awards" for his tremendous contribution towards the propagation and preservation of Indian Classical Music via Photographic Documentation. Ira was the "Chief Guest" at the Sangeetacharya Gokul Chandra Nag Centenary held at Kala Mandir, Kolkata, February 2006. He participated in the "India and the World" conference organized by the Universiteit van Amsterdam, Netherlands in November 2008, and several of his photographs were entered into the archives of the Department of Musicology.

His work has appeared in the following publications:

FRETS, NY Times, NY Post, Rhythm Music, Bansuri, India Archive Music, Music of the World, Raga Records, Simla House, Asia Society, Festival of India, Encyclopedia Britannica Online, Oxford University Press, Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts, SonicNet, Hinduism Today, Big Bridge, MOMENT Records, ECM Records, World Village Records, Poetry Flash, Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Disc, WMI Calendar, Village Voice, The Villager, Dirty Linen, Shanachie Records, Blind Pig Records, RAVE [India], Vibrations [Switzerland] Here Is New York [9.11 coverage], BBC Scotland & assorted publications, etc.

Guys I am Vusat Iqbal, D/O Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the Head/Khalifa of Delhi Gharana... I agree with the earlier posts, unfortunately Ustad Naseer Khan Sahab did not get the exposure he deserved... He died at the age of 54 only.... My dad, who is the present khalifa of Delhi Gharan, has devoted his life for the same cause and still have not got the recognition he deserved...

Anyways, to answer the query from Mr Aamir Tarin, You can contact my father Ustad Iqbal ahmed Khan at 09810643039 for more collections of our gharana...

Why Indian govt. failed to give due recognition to Panditji is a mystery. It is also due to prejudice for him.Panditji has religiously followed Bharat Natya Shastra and adored his gayaki accordingly. If all his collections including his lecture demonstrations and articles/books written by him are finding their place onthis vab site it will be highly appreciated. How their contemporary musicians and to-day's musicians have commented positively or negatively about his gayki shouldfind its place in this veb site.
To make aware music lovers about the enriched gayaki. if on dvd or mp3 it is made available it will be a great tribute to Hon'ble Panditji.
