Guys I am Vusat Iqbal, D/O Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, the Head/Khalifa of Delhi Gharana… I agree with the earlier posts, unfortunately Ustad Naseer Khan Sahab did not get the exposure he deserved… He died at the age of 54 only…. My dad, who is the present khalifa of Delhi Gharan, has devoted his life for the same cause and still have not got the recognition he deserved…

However I would disagree with what Mr. Omar Shams said about Nasir Khan Sahab (my nanaji). He has his own style of gayaki, whether its Vilampat, Drut or taankari.

Also the delhi gharana artists, be that Ustad Naseer Ahmed Khan or Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, have their own gharana style which is no lesser than any other gharana style, they wud not require to imitate any other style. However, I agree with the fact that he unfortunately did not get the deserved exposure like others but he was the only singer of his time to get the title of “Taan Samrat”.

But of course it all depends upon the individual interpretation of the same. I may not be able to put my point too well, as I am not into this profession, but will certainly ask my dad to clarify these doubts at the earliest.

Great kheyal artist. Unfortunately, did not get the deserved exposure and promotion (like Munawwar and Ghulam Mustafa, his contemporaries). In the vilampit, he integrated in his gayaki a kirana (Abdul Karim Khan, Roshan Ara) touch in sur_ki_lagao. The drut has the traditional Delhi taankari in three octaves. There is a stupendous unpublished Basant-Basant Bahar of his if one can find.
